10 AM to 3 PM PT
The Gestalt Practice Library is opening an expanded and newly restored collection of video and audio recordings of Fritz Perls at work. Through lectures and demonstrations, the collection offers direct access to Perls’s teaching and practice.
The collection was developed in cooperation with the Special Collections and Rare Books Department at Simon Fraser University in British Columbia. With permission to preserve and make these materials available, the Library took on the restoration of recordings that, by the time they came into our care, were perilously close to being lost.
The original 16mm films and reel-to-reel audio recordings have now been digitized through the technical skill of Transfer to Digital. With the addition of detailed editing by Jennifer Price, the financial support of Carolyn Genirberg, and remarkably fortunate timing, we can offer these recordings—restored, captioned, and transcribed. The collection will be available to Library members beginning September 12.
During a day-long introductory event, we will watch and listen to selections from the collection, share additional archival materials related to Fritz, and discuss his work. In a recorded interview with Dorothy Charles, Bev Silverman shares stories of her sessions with Fritz. We will also explore exercises inspired by the films and recordings, giving participants an opportunity to engage with this approach directly.
Join us on September 12 as we open the collection and spend a day considering the work of Fritz Perls.
This is a members-only event. If you are already a member, register below, or join the Library and then register.
Participation
Gestalt Practice Library and Resource Center gatherings are participatory and often include experiential exercises. We ask that you come to a program intending to be present and engaged. Plan to set aside other activities and have your camera on. Although we meet online, our guideline is to participate as you would if we were together in person.
Whenever possible, join from the beginning and plan to stay through the end. Orientation and instruction introduced early in a program often inform what happens later. If you need to be away from the meeting for more than a few minutes, let one of the leaders know through the chat.
Because participants may share personal experiences during Library gatherings, we also ask everyone to respect the privacy of what others share and not repeat personal material outside the gathering without permission.
Recording
Part of the mission of the Gestalt Practice Library and Resource Center is to document this work and make it accessible over time. Library events are recorded in audio and video, and recordings may become part of the Library's archive.
If you do not want your voice to be recorded, keep your microphone muted. Breakout rooms are not recorded.
If, after participating, you realize that you prefer something you said not be included in the archived recording, contact us at info@gestaltpracticelibrary.org. Include the name and date of the program and, as specifically as you can, identify your portion that you would like removed.
Participants may not make their own audio, video, photographic, chat, screen, or other recordings of Library gatherings.
