The Gestalt Practice Library and Resource Center (GPLRC), established as a nonprofit organization in 2023, is dedicated to preserving and providing access to the teachings and legacy of Richard “Dick” Price and the continued development of gestalt practice with Christine Price and others.

The Library houses a curated digital collection that documents the evolution of gestalt practice and its intersections with related fields, including Buddhist practice, Taoism, holistic approaches to health, alternatives to traditional psychiatric treatment, and diverse therapeutic methods. The collection offers both experiential and theoretical resources, supporting inquiry, study, and practice for individuals and communities interested in gestalt and related traditions.

The archive originated with materials entrusted to Christine Price following Richard Price’s death in 1985. These included audio lectures from leaders in the human potential movement, Richard Price’s personal correspondence and documents, and rare videotapes and audio recordings of his teaching and demonstrations. The collection also contains significant work from his mentor, Frederick “Fritz” Perls. In collaboration with Simon Fraser University, the GPLRC is digitizing much of Fritz’s work to add to the archive.

Since its founding, the archive has grown to include additional contributions, establishing itself as a continually expanding resource. More than 30,000 VHS tapes and audio cassettes have been digitized to date, ensuring long-term preservation and broad accessibility for research, education, and practice.

Board of Directors

Headshot of Chris Chris Price is a teacher and ongoing student of gestalt awareness practice (GAP). At age 17, she participated in a gestalt workshop at Esalen, taught by Richard Price. This began her life-long engagement with the study, practice, and development of his gestalt practice approach. Now, 50+ years later, she is grateful to be part of preserving, cataloging, and sharing decades of documentation about this approach and related work through the newly founded Gestalt Practice Library and Resource Center, where she currently serves as founding President.

Headshot of Dorothy Dorothy Charles met Richard and Christine Price in 1982 and began studying gestalt practice. As the originator of Relational Gestalt Practice and a co-founder of Tribal Ground Circle with Chris, she is delighted to be actively involved in preserving Richard Price’s legacy of gestalt practice as a founding board member of the Gestalt Practice Library and Resource Center. She is curating a collection of interviews with friends and colleagues associated with Dick and the formation of gestalt practice. These will add fresh voices and views reflecting on the history of this work and its roots.

Headshot of Sharon Sharon Terry fell in love with gestalt awareness practice in her first open seat with Chris, became an avid student, and now teaches workshops. She quickly became interested in organizing the recordings that had accumulated through the years. Her apprenticeship in gestalt awareness practice included learning from this preserved material as she digitized hundreds of video and audio tapes that Chris had compiled. She is excited to contribute her nonprofit organizational and technical skills to the Gestalt Practice Library and Resource Center and currently serves as founding Secretary, Treasurer, and CFO.
